Rachel Daws (Nee Bell), was born in 1951 in the small hamlet of Fonthill Gifford in Wiltshire England. She has always found visual art to be a natural form of self expression. She enjoys all forms of art making from drawing and painting to print making and sculpture. Encouraged by her teachers she applied for and was accepted into a fully funded (Scholarship) three year vocational course at Salsibury College of Art. After graduating and receiving a diploma in graphic art and design, Rachel spent several years traveling, working as a children’s nanny. She met her husband while working in Vancouver, which is where she now lives with her family. Raising four children left little time for art, but when her youngest child started school she was able to start painting on a regular basis.

Rachel had her first art show and sale from her home in 1995 which proved so successful that she has had an at home exhibit and sale each year. Rachel also does commission work and makes cards from reproductions of her paintings

Description of Work

Rachel started painting with watercolour finding it most suited to her style and subject but more recently has been working in acrylic mainly for its versatility. Rachel is an avid gardener and plant lover and much of her inspiration comes from her English cottage garden. Rachel and her husband have a rustic waterfront cabin on beautiful Hornby Island. Hornby’s beaches and rural setting are frequent subject in her artwork.

Rachel paints from life and from photographs or a combination of both. Her subjects are usually from nature, land and seascapes, floral, and still life.
